Division One heading for thrilling finale…
The summer may ‘officially’ be over, but the curtain is yet to fall on the County Cricket season. Current leaders Nottinghamshire, Somerset and Durham are battling it out to be crowned Division One champions and the destiny of the title looks set to go right to the wire.
Notts currently lead the rest of the field by eight points and victory would have assured them top spot. The table toppers however are currently struggling to bowl out Hampshire (187 for 4) and could be left with a sizeable final day run chase. Durham meanwhile are compiling a massive first innings lead over Kent and assuming rain doesn’t curtail the contest, should have plenty of time to bowl out the hosts for a second time.
Second placed Somerset took a 46 run deficit into their second innings against Lancashire and are now in deep trouble at 178 for 6. They’ll need their tail to wag like never before to keep faint hopes of victory alive.
