A few hours in and it’s already going wrong
Europe’s installation as clear favourites for this year’s Ryder Cup did unsettle us a bit here at Polite Applause. Sure, we’ve won the last three but it was always going to be dangerous arriving in Louisville with the expectation of winning.
With just one match completed, the bookies have gone full circle and made Team USA the new 8/11 favourites, with Europe drifting out to 11/8.
At least we can rely on Europe’s star pairing of Sergio Garcia and Lee Westwood to revive our chances though, right? Well, apparently not. After thirteen holes, they trail by one and it looks like Westwood’s chances of breaking Arnold Palmer’s 12-match unbeaten run are drifting.
