After losing to David Nalbandian in Paris, Andy Murray returned to winning ways with a three-set victory (6-4 1-6 6-1) over Andy Roddick, in his first ever Masters Cup match.
Murray now faces Frenchman Gilles Simon and then Roger Federer (Simon shocked Federer in their opener), to determine which two players progress to the semi finals from the Scot’s group. It’s entirely possible that Murray could lose both of those games - it’s a very tight, tough group, especially compared with the other half of the draw, where Novak Djokovic, Nikolay Davydenko, Juan Martin del Potro and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are doing battle.
Asked how he was feeling after the Roddick match, Murray said: “Not great. He made it difficult and made me do a lot of running. It’s tough to get over the jet lag. I’ve been going to bed at this time and hopefully I’ll be better for the next match.”
