The trick, Alistair, is to lie

Actors, believe it or not, are far from stupid. While Al Pacino and Robert De Niro sauntered around cooing about what a fantastic movie Righteous Kill is, they knew it was rubbish - they’d seen it. But, they know that honesty doesn’t attract audiences. A trick Alistair Cook could do with brushing up on, having let slip on 5 Live that the big Stanford Super Series is only worth playing for the cash. Word has it that each of the players will get $1 million if they win - which is about £500,000, credit crunch allowing.

“Of course, money does talk and a lot of the players are excited about playing it - but in terms of cricket, we know it’s not that important,” he honked, a little too candidly.
