Get drinking, people of the West!
If you haven’t been to the West Country, go. Lawyers speak like farmers, people only drink cider and it’s illegal not to watch rugby. Hence this weekend’s West Country derby between Bath and Gloucester will have one entire side of England going bonkers in pubs.
Former Bath man Olly Barkley is going to be spared a Gloucester debut against his old club - he’s a little bit injured. But it still promises to be tighter than a pregnant elephant’s underpants. The last match between the sides finished an astonishing 21-21, and only once in the last five outings has the winning team triumphed by more than three points. That was when Gloucester nabbed it 24-19 in 2006.
For anyone looking to gamble, Bath have won twelve of their twenty West Country Derbies in the Premiership, and tend to win by around four points.
