Owen Farrell could make Saracens debut
The son of England star Andy Farrell could become the youngest player in Guinness Premiership and EDF Energy Cup history after being named in the Saracens squad to face Llanelli on Sunday. Owen Farrell will be 17 years and 11 days on matchday, which means he would beat Danny Cipriani’s current record by 36 days if he makes it onto the pitch.
Owen signed a three-year academy deal at the same club as his dad in January. The pair will have to wait a little while longer to become the first father and son to play together in a Guinness Premiership side because Andy is currently out of action with a hand injury.
“There’s quite a bit of excitement in the Farrell household at the moment,” said Andy Farrell. “I’m not quite sure who is more excited about it – Owen or me. He’s been working very hard to combine his rugby and school commitments and that has meant a lot of early starts to get to training. But he’s been working hard and it will be a very proud moment for the family if he makes his Saracens first team debut on Sunday.”
