Hot new “square” driver inspired by a fighter plane & supercar
This is Callaway’s new FT-IQ driver. It claims to be the straightest driver ever made, which is sweet music to the ears of every hooker/slicer in the land (that’s 95% of us, then). The company’s claim is probably true, given that the FT-IQ is the successor to the much-admired FT-I driver, which has a reputation as being straighter than most drivers.
The titanium-faced FT-IQ takes its design cues from a Lamborghini supercar (as you can see from the photo above, the back of the club is remarkably similar to the rear end of a Lambo) and a fighter jet, a stealthy combination that will appeal to most tech-loving golfers. It’s hardly the most stylish of clubs, but who cares if it keeps you out of the rough.
One criticism of the original FT-I was that it lacked distance, but the improved FT-IQ is more aerodynamic, giving you more clubhead speed and longer yardage - that’s the theory anyway.
At around £380, the FT-IQ is certainly not cheap, although it should take a few shots off your handicap, so it’s probably worth it if you play a lot of golf - and who wouldn’t want a driver that looks like a fricking Lamborghini?
It’s launched on October 15th. Pre-order it online
