Unforgettable FAILS from golf’s biggest team event
1. Brookline, 1999
What could be better than a golf shirt featuring a photo collage of previous great US Ryder Cup teams & players? Almost anything. Still, the jingoistic shirts seemed to work - the US won the Cup back, with victory by a solitary point.
2. Royal Lytham, 1977
Gold blazers and brown tartan slacks for the victorious Yanks in 1977. A dubious combination that left the team looking like a grim convention of Seventies’ Anchormen.
3. Kiawah Island, 1991
Style is timeless. And so is bad taste.
4. The Belfry, 1993
Snazzy beige jumpers with the shape of the Ryder Cup trophy subtly woven into the wool fabric. Nice. The Yanks lost this one. Corey Pavin’s moustache = NOT golf.
5. The Belfry, 2002
Each of the American team was presented with a personalised ring to commemorate the 2002 event, which should have taken place in 2001, but was postponed due to the 9/11 attacks. Ryder Cup bling = FAIL.
6. The K Club, 2006
The good ole’ boys from the US, ready to do some huntin’ and some fishin’… and some golfin’, natch.

Will Anthony Kim be the top debutant at the Ryder Cup?
England pick Steve Harmison for $20m Stanford series. The right decision?
