Pasty Scot OWNS Tanned Adonis
For the first time ever in his pro career, Andy Murray defeated world No.1 Rafael Nadal, to reach the US Open men’s singles final. Murray will play Roger Federer tonight.
R-Fed is on a 30-match winning streak at Flushing Meadow and has had an extra day to recover from his semi, but Murray has nothing to be scared of - he enjoys a rare winning record against the Swiss star, and is playing the tennis of his life.
Having raced to a two-set lead, Murray looked to have lost crucial momentum when play resumed after a lengthy rain break. Nadal won the third set and was a break up in the fourth, but Murray showed remarkable steel to break back twice and prevent the game going to a fifth set.
If Murray beats R-Fed, he’ll become the first Brit to win a grand slam men’s singles title since Fred Perry won the US Open in 1936.
Nadal, ever the gent, was gracious in defeat. In truth, he lacked his usual pep, but you can’t blame him, not after a stunning streak that has seen him win the French Open, Wimbledon and the Olympic title in the space of a few months. He deserves a lie-down.
